Ian has substantial experience in corporate and commercial transactions in addition to commercial litigation. He represents clients in a wide range of matters, both locally and internationally.

Approximately three months after being admitted as an attorney, Ian commenced practicing for his own account and at that stage he was one of the youngest attorneys (with his further tax qualifications) practicing for his own account in Johannesburg if not the country.

As mentioned, Ian had further completed his Higher Diploma in Tax (Hdip Tax Law) at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1995.

Michael Strauss joined the Department of Justice in 2004 as a Judges Registrar at the then Johannesburg High Court, shortly whereafter he was admitted as an Advocate in the same division.

He joined Ian Levitt Attorneys in 2006 and was admitted to the side bar as an attorney in 2008. He became a partner in the firm in 2010. He has a BA (Law) Degree from the University of Stellenbosch and a LLB degree from the Rand Afrikaans University.

Michael specializes in both commercial and criminal litigation, and has been involved in various high profile matters on both a national and international scale. His experience in criminal litigation includes criminal trials, urgent applications, extraditions, criminal appeals and all other aspects relating to criminal law. Civilly, Michael acts for a host of public companies and renders a wide variety of legal services to them, including but not limited to civil litigation, civil appeals, drafting of commercial contracts, customs and excise related issues and liquidations. He has appeared in the Supreme Court of appeal on a number of occasions.

Michael has established very close ties with the Chinese community in South Africa, which client base now constitutes 50% of his practice. As a result thereof, he has been greatly involved in the negotiation, facilitation and drafting of mining, oil & gas and commodity contracts.

Wikus Steyl - Attorney

Wikus obtained his LLB from the University of Pretoria whilst being a full-time candidate attorney from 2005 and was admitted as an attorney in February 2011. In furthering his formal education, he has obtained additional qualifications in the Advanced course in Business Rescue through LEAD &the University of South Africa and an Advanced Certificate in Insolvency Litigation and Practice through the University of Pretoria (cum laude).

Wikus’ substantial experience in Insolvency Law, Family Law, Criminal Law and Corporate and Commercial Law adds depth to the firm’s specialization fields.
Wikus has been involved in numerous high-profile cases including acting for the ex-national Police Commissioner and the pre-democracy Defence Force chief doctor and has made various police stations his second home for after-hours bail applications.

Civilly Wikus has been instrumental in reported SCA judgments, specialises in trust and surety litigation and has, through personally conducting insolvency enquiries, successfully uncovered and collected millions of rands in undue preferences and irregular payments for insolvent estates.
Wikus is a published author on Mergers and Acquisitions and has been interviewed on live television on different aspects of the law.

Angelike Charalambous - Attorney

Angelike Charalambous obtained her Bcom Law and LLB degrees from the University of Johannesburg and joined Ian Levitt Attorneys in March 2014 completing her final year of her articles with us.

Angelike was admitted as an attorney in March 2015. Angelike deals with all types of commercial and civil litigation, with extensive experience in civil litigation, including contract law, labour law, family law, delictual claims and insolvency law amongst others.

She has been and continues to be involved in many high profile matters, including a matter which lead to changes in legislation for the protection of children from abuse.

She has also recently obtained her right of Appearance in the High Court of South Africa. Angelike’s professionalism, friendly demeanour, hard working attitude and confidence make her a formidable attorney and she deals with all her matters with dignity and to the best of her ability, always having her client’s best interests at heart.

Nicole van Deventer – Candidate Attorney

Nicole van Deventer is a candidate attorney at Ian Levitt Attorneys who joined the Ian Levitt team in February 2017. She completed her Bcom(Law) Degree in 2014 at the University of Pretoria and thereafter completed her LLB degree (Cum Laude) in 2016. Nicole has experience with general collections, evition (P.I.E) applications, commercial litigation and family law.

Jo-Anne Galstone – Candidate Attorney

Jo-Anne Galstone serves as a Candidate Attorney at Ian Levitt Attorneys. Jo-Anne, a young professional, holds an LLB degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) with electives including Banking Law, Conveyancing, Notarial Practice, Company Law as well as Law of Intellectual Property and Competition. Jo-Anne was previously employed as a Legal Administrator for five years, where she was mainly responsible for the Administration and or Liquidation of Divorce Estates as well as Deceased Estates. She has a keen eye for detail and is focused on learning and growing while delivering excellent professional client services.
